We had a great morning here in the Chamber office last week when a representative from all of our fireworks stand volunteer groups gathered to receive their share of the proceeds. The Chamber wrote checks totaling $1,463.90 to 6 different organizations: Beta Sigma Phi, Xi Gamma Epsilon chapter; the Family Resource Exchange; Herington Municipal Hospital Auxiliary; VFW Post 1281; Modified Dolls, Kansas Chapter; and Beta Sigma Phi, Preceptor Gamma Gamma chapter. We want to thank all of these groups who volunteered!
I would like to thank everyone that came out to the Chamber’s fireworks stand and supported our fundraising event! The stand was a rousing success! All of the proceeds from our stand will be going back into our communities. We had six groups that volunteered with us in the stand and will be receiving a percentage of our proceeds: the Family Resource Exchange, the Hospital Auxiliary, the VFW, both local chapters of Beta Sigma Phi, and the Modified Dolls. Their help was greatly appreciated and it will be our pleasure to make donations to their groups.
It’s Tri-County Free Fair week. If you see a member of the Fair Board, be sure and give them a pat on the back; they are working extremely hard to put on another great event that pulls people into our community.
This Saturday the Chamber will have our Baa Baa Bingo event. Previously it was Horse Apple Bingo, but this year we went with sheep. Get your ticket from me or any Chamber board member and have a chance to win $500 in Local Bucks.
Isn’t funny how when we get up to speak in front of a large group of people, our nicely prepared speeches fly right out the window. Last Monday during the Member Recognition part of our annual banquet, I forgot two very important things. When I was recognizing our new Chamber members, I missed congratulating the Family Resource Exchange for joining the Chamber this year; they have been a great addition to our organization!
We also took time and recognized our members that had special milestones or achievements in the previous year. How I managed to forget to honor Gene & Rhonda Simpson for celebrating their 25th anniversary of G&R Auto Parts here in Herington, I have no idea! That is a major milestone and I am pretty proud of them.
We have another busy week next week. Come over to the Chamber office on Monday from 4 – 6pm for a Cash Mob for all the local independent demonstrators. These hardworking entrepreneurial ladies add a lot to our community, so let’s turn out to thank them!
If you want to hear from the candidates for City Commission, be sure and come to the Candidate Forum on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Community Building. Doors open at 6pm for residents to submit their questions in writing and the Forum will kick off at 7pm. Roger Boelling will be the event moderator and Tandi Arevalo will be working as the official time keeper.
On Thursday, Feb 26, the Community Building will be transformed into a twinkle light and tulle festooned wonderland for the Father Daughter Dance. Daddys, make a date with your little princess. Tickets are $7 a piece or $20 for a family ticket and are available from the Chamber office, at Prairie Chic, or from any Fun Committee member. Tickets are also available at the door.
