March a little less hectic

After an insanely busy month in February, it’s looking like March will be a little more comfortable pace. Make sure to mark your calendars for a few important dates, however.

IMAG1911G&R Auto Parts will be having their annual Spring Farm Filter Sale March 2 through 12, with the traditional customer appreciation lunch on Friday, March 6 from 11:30 am to 1pm. Be sure and come out and enjoy.

Discs Unlimited is gearing up for a great season and they’ll kick it off ondiscs unlimited March 28 with the Discs Unlimited Open at the Herington Country Club and Father Padilla Park.

If you have ever had to deal with the VA, you know how frustrating it can be. The VFW Post 1281 will once again be hosting a VA Veteran Services rep on March 21 from 8 am to 12 noon to help you nagivate the system. People that have attended this in the past have reported great things about it. They will also be serving a free will donation breakfast that morning.

The Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting a book fair on March 16 in the Physical Therapy hallway. Come out and pick up something new to read and support your local hospital!

If you have not purchased your tickets for the Benefit Memorial Dinner for Sam & Celia Gonzolas yet, please do so soon. The event is on March 14 and will sure to be a good time. Great food, silent auctions, and a performance by the Clearview Band. You can get tickets from Nelda Darwin or Brandy Collins.

Add in a blood drive, election primaries, and a Cash Mob and March is shaping up to be FUN! Be sure and see our tabletop calendars or the community calendar on our website for full details!

Prepared Speech Can Go Out the Window

DSC_2062Isn’t funny how when we get up to speak in front of a large group of people, our nicely prepared speeches fly right out the window. Last Monday during the Member Recognition part of our annual banquet, I forgot two very important things. When I was recognizing our new Chamber members, I missed congratulating the Family Resource Exchange for joining the Chamber this year; they have been a great addition to our organization!DSC_2088

We also took time and recognized our members that had special milestones or achievements in the previous year. How I managed to forget to honor Gene & Rhonda Simpson for celebrating their 25th anniversary of G&R Auto Parts here in Herington, I have no idea! That is a major milestone and I am pretty proud of them.

We have another busy week next week. Come over to the Chamber office on Monday from 4 – 6pm for a Cash Mob for all the local independent demonstrators. These hardworking entrepreneurial ladies add a lot to our community, so let’s turn out to thank them!

If you want to hear from the candidates for City Commission, be sure and come to the Candidate Forum on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Community Building. Doors open at 6pm for residents to submit their questions in writing and the Forum will kick off at 7pm. Roger Boelling will be the event moderator and Tandi Arevalo will be working as the official time keeper.

On Thursday, Feb 26, the Community Building will be transformed into a twinkle light and tulle festooned wonderland for the Father Daughter Dance. Daddys, make a date with your little princess. Tickets are $7 a piece or $20 for a family ticket and are available from the Chamber office, at Prairie Chic, or from any Fun Committee member. Tickets are also available at the door.
