It’s time for another Think Local First Cash Mob! Our local Pizza Hut donates back to our community so much and hosts so many fundraisers for local people and groups; let’s show them how much we appreciate them in our community! Come out for the lunch buffet next Monday between 11 am and 1 pm and be entered to win the $60 Cash Mob prize basket. Pizza Hut will also be doing some additional giveaways. Come out and enjoy a great lunch and maybe win some great prizes.

Also on Monday the 16th, be sure and visit the Hospital Auxiliary’s Book Fair in the PT Hallway of the Hospital. Get some great reading material and support your local hospital.

The members of Beta Sigma Phi are starting to make calls about donations for the annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 4. Last year they had 4,150 eggs. Let’s see if we can beat that number this year! If you would like to donate plastic eggs filled with goodies (candy or other treats) contact Tonya Utech, Mary Schaffer, or myself.

street danceThe Throttle Jockey’s 4th Annual Car Show is going to be bigger and better than ever this year! The Visit Herington Tourism Board and the American Legion Riders are teaming up to host a street dance on Friday night, April 24, with the Clearview Band. Bring the family out, as they close down Broadway for a great community dance. The Car Show will be Saturday morning, April 25, from 8 am to 1 pm. Street closures will start around 6 am.

Please be aware of the street closures and respect the barriers. It just takes a few extra minutes of your time to take an alternate route to your destination. Please do not go around the barriers once they are in place. Not only is it inconsiderate, but it’s potentially dangerous. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Throttle Jockeys picsYesterday, downtown Herington was packed with local residents and tourists alike enjoying the 3rd Annual Car Show and after 1pm, everyone headed out to the Herington Airport for the Drag Races.

There were car club members out on the street before 6am putting up barricades and setting up equipment so that when the first cars started rolling in at 8am, everything was ready.Throttle Jockeys pics3

We had over 200 cars registered from as far away as Oklahoma and Nebraska and spectators from all the surrounding counties and all we heard all day was compliments on what a great event it was.

Thank you to the City of Herington employees who contributed so much and thank you to our Chamber volunteers for helping with the vendor portion of the show.

tshirtLast Friday I attended the final planning meeting for the upcoming Throttle Jockeys Car Show & Drag Races.  Our community is so lucky to have such a great group of people putting on this fun event. If the weather clears up by Saturday, we could see over 300+ visitors in our community! How very exciting!

Come out Saturday morning and support the Throttle Jockeys and our vendors.  Also make sure you stop in and visit with our newest business, Prairie Chic, which will be opening their doors this Friday.  I am very excited to see what this unique venue is going to bring!

Registration is now open for the Area Wide Garage Sale, scheduled for May 31st. Come by the Chamber office and register your sale. A standard listing is $5 and an upgraded listing is $7.50.  We’ll be advertising the event in 6 local newspapers all over the surrounding areas.

Easter Egg HuntOur Tri-County Area is so lucky to have so many active groups working hard to create fun events for our citizens.

Just this past weekend, the ladies of the Beta Sigma Phi sororities gathered 4,150 plastic Easter eggs filled with treats and hosted their annual Easter Egg Hunt in Father Padilla Park. Mueller Farms was there with cute bunnies (one of them weighed 14 pounds!) and the Easter Bunny even made an appearance handing out candy and toys!

This upcoming weekend the Throttle Jockeys Car Club is bringing the car show portion of their annual events to the downtown area.  This could bring 300+ visitors into our town, boosting our local economy; as well as making the show more convenient for families to sho;w

Throw in there the Herington Civic Club, the Hope Community Development Committee (their annual Chili Cook Off is NOT to be missed), the Herington Fireworks Committee, the White City Fireworks Committee, and the Visit Herington Tourism Group, just to name a small few – well I’d say we as residents are pretty darn lucky and should make sure that we thank those groups for all their hard work.
