The Chamber’s Fun Committee works hard to put together great events for our community and it’s extremely gratifying to us when one succeeds as greatly as the recent Costume Parade and Trunk or Treat event did. 205 kids signed up for the prize drawing and participated in the parade with even more kids and families joining in for the Trunk or Treat. I talked to families from Burdick and Hope and Lincolnville and even a group that came in from Salina for our event!
The Fun Committee wanted to make sure and recognize everyone who contributed to this fantastic success. Thank you to Kenny Staatz and the Herington Fire Department for bringing out the firetruck to lead the parade. The Dickinson County EMTs deserve a big round of applause for handing out reflective bags and other safety materials.
We were so excited for the number of Trunk or Treat stations we had. Thank you to the American Legion Riders, the First Baptist Church, the Throttle Jockeys Car Club, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, all the businesses (especially State Farm for bringing the big bear) that turned out, as well as the many residents who set up a truck and handed out candy.
It was so hard to pick of winner of the best decorated treat station; the group finally decided to split the prize between Tonya Utech with First Impressions and Lisa Herpich. The three drawings for the $50 in Local Bucks went to Magaen Bell, Mileah Backhus and Aiden Thibodeau.
Again, thank you to everyone who helped to make this event the rousing success that it was!
The Chamber’s “Fun Committee” has a couple of new things on the agenda for the next few months.
September 28th we are going to try our hands at putting together a Quarter Mania Auction. Don’t feel bad if you don’t know what that is, we didn’t either until recently. It’s a cross between an auction, a raffle, and a home party all rolled into one to make a fun and exciting afternoon! The Fun Committee is teaming up with the HMH Auxiliary, so come out and support your Fun Committee and the Hospital Auxiliary. If you want to read any more about the event, check out the Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/693199904062063/
The Fun Committee is also looking to expand our annual Costume Parade. We want to give the kids a fun but safe environment to fill their little sacks so we are adding a Trunk or Treat to the event. Individuals and organizations are asked to bring your vehicle down to the costume parade and open the trunk or back and hand candy out to the kids. People often decorate their trunks and dress in costume to make the event more fun for the kids!
Don’t forget that October is also the time that the undead rise up and gather non-perishable food items for the Family Resource Exchange, so mark October 26th on your calendar and join Chardy Bayes in this worthwhile endeavor!
